Opening Song

my father my god, my friend (song 30)

1.

Life in this world can be hard.

Life in this world can bring tears and pain.

Still ev’ry day I will say,

“My life is not in vain.”

Chorus

For God is not unrighteous,

And he remembers the love I’ve shown.

So he is ever near me;

With Jehovah, I’m not alone.

Yes, God is my provider

and my protector down to the end.

Yes, Jehovah is my Father,

My God and Friend.

2.

Gone are the days of my youth;

Days of calamity now are here.

Still through the eyes of my faith,

My hope is bright and clear.

Chorus

For God is not unrighteous,

And he remembers the love I’ve shown.

So he is ever near me;

With Jehovah, I’m not alone.

Yes, God is my provider

and my protector down to the end.

Yes, Jehovah is my Father, My God and Friend.

Sekiu Weaver was born on August 3, 1960 in Washington, DC to parents Eloise and Earl Weaver.

Sekiu is survived by:

His children:

KiaMia,

Malaun,

Iyashia,

Qai

Akeria

and his 9 grandchildren.

His sisters Earline Monroe, Deborah Weaver-Pace and His Aunt Black Williams and Uncle Alfred Williams.

Sekiu had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Edith Weaver, his father Earl Weaver, his brother Eugene Weaver and Aunts: Doris Crawley, Helen Frederick, Elenor Boone, Estelle Thorton, and Eleniza Conyers.

At an early age he always had a love for God and prayed to him daily. He had tried different religions but to no avail could find what he truly needed.

He became familiar with Jehovah's Witnesses in the 90’s through his then wife, Marsha Barkley, whom they share 3 children. Over the years Brothers such as Donald Brown, Gabe Najjar, Larry Roland, Marlon Young, Mitch Hockman, and Carl Hicks left Sekiu with a lasting and positive impression regarding Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Later in life, Sekiu sought out Jehovah, went back to the congregation where he started, West Silver Spring, and dedicated his life to Jehovah on August 2, 2020.

Sekiu went to Shepherd Elementary, Paul Jr. High and Coolidge High School in Washington, DC.

Not being a big fan of school, he developed a true love for hair.

He became a master hair designer and developed his skills in cosmetology school. He used to get teased about his profession, but that didn't stop him from pursuing his goal.

He worked at the famous salons, Natural Motions, Salehs and Jacci's on Georgia Avenue in Washington DC to name a few. He entered major competitions and won several hair awards. He worked with the likes of Floyd Kenyatta, Liz Nolan, Barry Fletcher and Paul Mitchell.

He decided to concentrate his talents on being a Master Barber and set his sights on honing this skill. He worked at various Barbershops throughout the DMV. Sekiu eventually wanted have his own establishment and create an environment where the brothers could come and break “spiritual bread”.

Sekiu LOVED the preaching work. When he wasn't working, he was out in the field! He loved telling others about Jehovah! Anyone who would listen, he would tell them about the truth. He had his entire desk fully equipped for the ministry. Preparing for his talks and comments were a joy for him. Not being an avid reader, he became one by reading Gods word everyday.

Once the pandemic hit, he transitioned smoothly over to telephone and letter writing. Telephone witnessing soon became his favorite. He loved being on zoom and fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters.

When Sekiu fell ill, he didn’t focus on himself. He would make it a habit of calling or texting the friends faithfully. Even though one of his favorite scriptures; (2 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore, we do not give up, but even if the man we are outside is wasting away, certainly the man we are inside is being renewed from day to day.”) was coming into play, he was renewed by making sure the friends were in good spirits and spiritually nourished.

In his last days he always quoted Isaiah 41:10,13

“Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness. ’For I, Jehovah your God, am grasping your right hand, The One saying to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you.’

The reason why he quoted this scripture was: He wasn’t afraid for himself. He knew he was safe in Jehovah’s hands. He was afraid for his loved ones he was leaving behind and asking Jehovah to protect them. For the ones that knew him to NEVER leave Jehovah; And for the ones that temporarily left Jehovah; PLEASE return to him.

Why?

Because Jehovah will always welcome you home.

Sekiu will be truly missed. He was a jokester and had jokes for days. He was a Protector. He was a Husband. He was a Nephew. A Cousin. A Best Friend.

No words or thoughts can express the lost felt in his family.

But we know we will see him again. And BOY! We can’t wait!

Sekiu Weaver Biography

Closing Song

teach them to stand firm (song 79)

1.

What a joy to teach Jehovah’s sheep

And to see how they have grown.

We have seen how he has guided them

As they’ve made the truth their own.

Chorus

Jehovah, may you hear our prayer

And keep them in your watchful care.

In Jesus’ name, for them we plead: May they succeed;

May ev’ry one of them stand firm.

2.

Ev’ry day we said a prayer for them,

As their faith was under test.

We made time to teach and care for them;

They’ve grown strong, and they’ve been blessed.

Chorus

Jehovah, may you hear our prayer

And keep them in your watchful care.

In Jesus’ name, for them we plead: May they succeed;

May ev’ry one of them stand firm.

3.

May they all maintain their confidence,

Trust in God and in his Son.

Through endurance and obedience,

May their race for life be won.

Chorus

Jehovah, may you hear our prayer

And keep them in your watchful care.

In Jesus’ name, for them we plead: May they succeed;

May ev’ry one of them stand firm.
